I am honored to be the 2008-2009 President of the Hatboro Rotary Club. A club chartered in 1942, it is one with much tradition and history. How many clubs do you know that still have an active member in its club that was there almost from the chartered date? How many clubs do you know that have 80% attendance and has the fellowship that Hatboro does? How many clubs do you know of that not only have the business owners as members but are leaders in the community? Yes, it is a special club and I am so proud to be the President.
August 2008 will be a busy month for our club. On the 6th we will participate in the Philadelphia Phillies and Rotary International’s ‘Strike Out for Hunger’ night at Citizen’s Bank Park. Canned food donations will be given to a good cause and the Rotary foundation will benefit from a percentage of the ticket sales as well. While one baseball game is good, two are better. On August 7th, Rotary International is hosting another game, this time at the Reading Phillies. Fifty percent of all ticket sales will be donated to efforts to eradicate Polio. You should be happy to know that our club has done their part in this project. We have generously purchased 20 tickets to the game! These tickets are available to all Hatboro Rotarians. All unused tickets from our members will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Reading.
August also means the final preparations for this year’s Lobster Pot. Frank and Joe have been hard at work making this year’s Lobster Pot the best yet! But they need your help. Our Lobster Pot requires all of us to volunteer our time in setting up and cleaning up. So, please, when volunteers are requested, donate your time in helping out when needed. We also need help in selling tickets. As everyone knows, all profits from Lobster Pot will be disseminated throughout the various charities in our community. We truly are very blessed to be able to help so many people that are in need.
On September 6th (at Lobster Pot) we will present one lucky tickets holder with a brand new Dodge Nitro SUV or $10,000 in cash. We have done a fine job in selling tickets and promoting this raffle so far. We are on the home stretch, just 280 more tickets to sell. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help supply clean water to villages in need. It is our duty as Rotarians to help make sure our fellow brothers and sisters around the world get clean water.
It sure is a great time to be a Rotarian, especially a Hatboro Rotarian. We help so many of our neighbors locally and internationally. Thank you for welcoming me as your President. I am looking forward to sharing many great times with all of you throughout the year.
Heath Epstein
President, 2008-2009
